Despite many successes have been achieved in marine biotechnology, still many gaps remain to be filled in our basic knowledge on marine science before it could be fully exploited. Systems biology focuses on complex interactions within biological systems, using a holistic approach instead of the traditional reductionism. Marine ecosystems, with different levels of organization at different scales, are ideal benchmark for designing integrative and systems biology approaches. On the other hand, except a few pioneering applications to marine ecology, systems biology approach to marine science is still at its infancy, and marine biotechnology could not benefit from the blessings of systems biology yet. Here, with its inherent holistic philosophy and multidisciplinary nature, systems biology perspective was proposed as a new driver toward seeking solutions to the grand challenges of marine biotechnology.

Saffron is one of the highly exotic spices known for traditional values and antiquity. It is used for home décor besides serving as a colorant flavor and is widely known for medicinal value. Over the last few years, saffron has garnered a lot of interest due to its anti-cancer, anti-mutagenic, anti-oxidant and immunomodulatory properties. Integration of systems biology approaches with wide appl...
متن کاملPersian Gulf Bivalves: Bioactive Pharmaceutical Compounds and Biomedical Applications
Bivalves are a class of marine mollusks with high nutritional value in addition to various medicinal products. The Persian Gulf is home to 224 species from 29 families of bivalves identified so far. Based on research conducted in the Persian Gulf or other parts of the world, bioactive compounds exist in their shell and soft tissue. In this review article, we reviewed biomedical research related...
متن کاملField preservation of marine invertebrate tissue for DNA analyses.
Successful preservation of tissue samples is a prerequisite for long field studies in remote areas. However, there is little published information concerning field preservation of marine invertebrate tissues for DNA analyses. This omission is significant because marine biodiversity is centered in the Indo-Pacific, where immediate DNA analysis is often impossible. Consequently, we used an assay ...
